Stads-schouwburg Amsterdam |

The Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam is the largest theatre in the Netherlands. With a new performance hall, it was imperative that it attract large numbers of people, which it launched via a revision of its approach to its communication material, with its annual brochure as magnum opus, listing all its stage, music and dance performances. In 2008
a mailing of 75,000 annual brochures was sent to everyone of the theatre’s possible contacts.
De Designpolitie came up with an almost formal solution for the divergent genres the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam offers: stage, music, dance, youth and its own initiative, ‘expanding theatre’. Each genre has its own typeface; each
of the two halls has its own colour: gold and silver.
‘We’ve always loved switching between “big” and “small”, without losing sight of our principles. You can confront even a large mainstream public with
a typographic experiment.’
